Growing sunflowers
Sunflowers சூரியகாந்தி
February - May 2024
A
morning on the second week since the sunflowers bloomed, there emerged
few visitors. Perhaps they had moved in a few days ago; who knew!
One of them was the Green lynx spider (tamil: ---). A predator of many a crop eating insects, including flies, bees, wasps, grasshoppers, and other arthropods. They are eaten by other larger spiders and birds.
Camouflaged so well that I barely noticed them in the first glance. It is quite amazing how they knew there were sunflowers growing here after so many years.
Then there was the yellow flower crab spider. They feed on common insects, often consuming preys much larger than themselves by using venom to immobilise their prey, although they are harmless to humans. They face threats due to parasites and larger insects. For Misumena Vatia , survival depends on the choice of hunting site.
